Andrew first appears on the 1820 Rowan County
census and is not found after 1830. Estate
records for Rowan County show that one Andrew
Pethel died about 1841 when dower was allowed
for his widow, Christina Pahel. She received
24 acres, which would have been one third of
his land. There is uncertainty about whether
this was Andrew, Sr. or Andrew, Jr., but
since 74 acres would have been the half of
Andrew Pechel, Sr's land which he had divided
between two of his sons, Andrew. Jr. and
Jacob, it is probable that it was Andrew, Jr.
who died in 1841. In the 1840 Rowan County
census (pg. 46), A Christina Pahel, age 40-50,
is listed as widow of Andrew. Within her
household are listed two males age 5-10, one
female age 5-10, one female age 15-20, and
one female age 70-80. It is quite possible
the elderly woman is the widow of Andrew, Sr.
who came to live in her son's home upon the
death of her husband.

(Deed Book 32, Pg 501). No relationship is
shown in this deed. However, in 1834, Deed
Book 32, Pg 328 indicates that Jacob Bakel
got this tract of land from his father
